Year 7 Presentation of Learning

The Year 7 presentation of learning for their current learning expedition will take place on the evening of Monday 12th December. We will have more details on exact timings in due course.

It is really important that every student attends, and has someone from their family come to the event to celebrate the incredible work that they are doing.

Year 7 Fieldwork

Students in Year 7 will be going out on fieldwork every Wednesday as part of their current expedition, beginning tomorrow (11th May).

All students will be working outdoors for extended periods so must have the following:

  • Waterproofs
  • Warm clothing
  • Hat/gloves
  • Wellington boots/walking boots
  • Water bottle
  • Sun cream

Students will be doing field research as well as manual service learning at Potteric Carr nature reserve so it is important that they have the appropriate kit.

We ask that students do not arrive in jeans, canvas trainers or open toed shoes for fieldwork as they are not appropriate for outdoor work. Students may bring a change of clothes for when they return to school.

Timings of the day will run as normal so there is no need to make a packed lunch. Students will finish the day at the normal time of 3.15.

Thanks for your continued support.

Beautiful Work By Kiera Durkin

As part of their Chefistry Expedition, students are working to define what makes a healthy, savoury meal. They used unit rate to determine nutritional information per serving, calculated the daily recommended intake of each menu item and applied this information to make a nutrition labels.

Well done to Kiera for this beautiful work!!

Y7 Admiral – STEM Homework, due 13.Oct.15 before 8pm

Redraft fact into fiction story
If you handed your work in on time, you will have some feedback in your books or on your google doc.

You MUST NOW TYPE YOUR WORK UP IN A GOOGLE DOC, and make any changes suggested to improve your grade.

If you missed the first deadline and have your yellow book, I suggest you type up your work, share it with me and I will mark it as soon as I can. You are at a disadvantage now though, as your peers have already had feedback and will have more time to redraft.

This work is DUE BY TUESDAY 13th OCT, 8pm.

You can hand in your work through google classroom too. Click on the assignment details then hand in work by attaching your google doc. If you are stuck on how to do this then ask me to show you on Monday, but you can still share it with me anyway.

NO EXCUSES will be accepted on the deadline date – I am here if you need me.

Remember that Homework Club is every Mon-Fri 3:15 to 4:30pm.

All year 7 students will be presenting their learning from their current STEM and Humanities & Arts expeditions this coming Thursday 15th Oct at 18.00pm.

It is really important that at least one person from every student’s family attends the presentation of learning.

This is a really important first step for our students on the road to becoming leaders of their own learning. It gives them a chance to practise articulating their own progress in academic learning targets and in their HOWLs.

They will be showing off how they have solved real world problems with measuring and perimeter, telling you all about what makes a successful community, explaining how a mars bar and scotch egg are decent models for the Earth and you as parents will be able to see their artwork and drafts that will go towards the final product for the final products for each expedition.

Students will be working hard this coming week to get their drafts ready, and so it is crucial that they have an audience for their work before the book and website launch teams start pulling all of our students’ drafts together for the final products.

Students will be required to stay in school from school, right through until the end of the event at around 1845 so they will need a pack-up tea. We can provide teas for students on free school meals if you let us know via email or through your son or daughter if you require one.

Since this is a formal event students should dress smart for the day, or they can bring additional clothes to change into if they choose.
